Loving this! Just downloaded it last night and looking forward to playing. I have a question about the hacking rules. They say
"Gain 1 success, then increase alert level by your success
number."
Does this mean that I increase the alert by the number of successes I've already accumulated or does it mean that I increase the alert by the number of successes needed to complete the run at my DR level?
The way I play it is I increase the Alert level by the current number of successes I have. This way, failing at the start of a net::run is not as bad as messing up while you're knees deep into a system. If you want your gear and neurons fried faster, you can use the number of successes needed instead!
Very helpful, thanks for porting this from Solitary Defilement. I have a question though: while the 2d20 system is very nice for keeping the story going, it doesn't mention handling critical rolls (1 or 20). Do both dice have to show a 1 or 20 in this case?
How would you handle fumbling? Changing a fumble to only occur when both dice show a 1 makes it much less likely/dangerous. Conversely, having a fumble when at least one dice shows a 1 doubles the chance to get one in comparison to the core rules.
Depending on how often I want crits to happen, I use on of these two rulings:
Critical on double 1 / double 20. These must be spectacular (as they have 0.25% chance to happen)
Critical on Fail with at least one natural 1 and on Strong hits with at least one natural 20
First ruling makes critical rolls particularly rare, and particularly important, whereas second ruling makes them more likely to happen. Of course, even with the second ruling I tend to give double 1s / 20s special treatment ;)
This is very cool. I've been having a ton of fun with it!! One thing I want to note is that it is very hard to search for this ruleset on itch because of the 0s in the name.
Searching 'Solo Work' doesn't bring this up, but 'S0l0 work' does.
I don't know anything about making content for this website, but if it were possible to make it appear for both somehow it would likely be easier to find for new players.
Thank you again for making such an awesome ruleset!

Loving the green on black look! My first computer was an Apple IIc with the monochrome monitor so this hits home.
